This is part one of three ‘spiels’ which invite us to re-imagine the church as a missional community. In Wagga, the community is de-identifying with the Anglican church faster than any other religion – actually more than double that of any other denomination. Christian missionaries have been urging the so called ‘Christian West’ for many decades to re-imagine itself in a context that is post-Christian. Part one outlines these shifting social realities, whilst part two will analyse more closely the dynamics of secularism, multiculturalism and generational approaches to worship. In part three I will outline some reasons for optimism and suggest a way forward.
